IT'S BACK!
Summer is well and truly here and so is our wonderful brand new Box of The Week!
Fresh and fruity Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa; Spectacular single vineyard Riesling; Organic Verdejo from sunny Spain; the ever popular "El Recio" (aka. the Tough One) from Bodegas Matsu; Georgian Red (an Allotment best seller!) and a rich and juicy Portuguese red from vineyards on the outskirts of Lisbon.
The Box of The Week is part answer to the many questions that I still get on a fairly regular basis, like: "Chris, what's your favourite wine?" or "Chris, what are you going to drink this weekend?" or "Chris, have you got anything that's new?" or "What do you drink with this sort of weather?" or, quite often, "Hey, what are we bringing on holiday?"...
This is a chance for you to get inside my head and see what wines I'm really thinking about at this very moment in time.
Made of the wines that I can see would make a brilliant wine-tasting, or that may have been overlooked, or under-sold... or a combination of all these and more, this is going to be the place where you're most likely to find the odds and ends that I've become rather keen on picking up - they never last long!

In this week's box it you'll get six bottles, one bottle of each of the following:
1. Iona, Elgin Highlands Sauvignon Blanc
This beautifully pure, fresh and vibrant wine is one of our favourite Sauvignon Blancs from the last twenty years, and one of our all-time favourite South African wineries. Saline in texture with tropical flavours of lime, gooseberry, blossom and grapefruit with a sensational palate that is mineral, elegant and balanced, with a long, complex finish.
2. Max Ferd. Richter, Mülheimer Sonnenlay Riesling "Zeppelin"
A spectacular single vineyard Riesling that offers a very balanced approach to this most elegant and vibrant of grape varieties and styles. Fresh, slightly off-dry, it is full of bright golden fruit flavours, apple blossom and racy acidity that prevents the wine from becoming sickly or in any way overtly sweet. It is delicious now, with its crystal clear mineral texture, just as it was when they served it on the Zeppelin pleasure cruisers in the 1920s. The first German wine that I fell for, and only 10.5% alcohol!
3. Menade, Rueda Verdejo
A real organic stunner, this is fresh, textural and complex wine. Bright green and yellow apple flavours with honeysuckle and tropical notes. Delicious - summer in a glass!
4. Bodegas Matsu, 'El Recio', Toro
This is arguably one of the most popular wines that has hit the market in the past decade, with the wine label being one of the most-admired and instantly recognisable today. A wonderfully dense and rich wine that is loaded full of strawberry coulis, bramble and vanilla, coconut and mocha notes. If you like smooth and approachable wines that deliver a large whack of dark fruit, yet familiar fruit and spice characteristics, this is a wine you have to try!
5. Bedoba, Saperavi, Khaketi, Georgia
A smashing wine from one of the oldest recorded wine regions in the world. Gorgeously rich, smooth and full with enough acidity to balance the mouth-coating roundness and lush black berry, cherry and plum fruit flavours. Silky texture with spice on the finish...no wonder it's an Allotment best seller!
6. Colossal Reserva, Lisboa Tinto
Concentrated on the nose with loads of overripe black and red fruit leading to spice, chocolate and more dense fruit. The palate is not over-powering but it is smooth, rich and full, with all those flavours promised on the nose delivered on cue. If you like big, smooth, rich and juicy, ripe, dark red wines, then this is for you.
A gorgeous box of delights - make sure you grab one before they're gone!
Usual caveat applies: if we are out of stock of a specific wine, we will replace it with one of the same value or higher, equally delicious and as close in style as we can make it.
