New exclusive wines from Von Winning
All worthy of a mention, but three in particular.
First up, there's the stunningly great value, Allotment exclusive, Drache Estate Riesling. Made from grapes grown across all their vineyard areas, it's like a CV/ resumé)of what their wines are truly all about - freshness, complexity and flavour.
Then, there's this all-out stunner, the Ruppertsberger Nussbien, a single-vineyard Premier Cru Riesling. Quite possibly the best quality to price ratio wine I've found in the extensive range from Von Winning.
Not an easy feat given that these Rieslings once commanded far, far higher prices than almost anything from Burgundy or Bordeaux! And now, they're a fraction of the price with quality still getting better, vintage after vintage.
Gold for the price of bronze.
Lastly, I just have to mention the Von Winning Premier Cru Deidesheimer Herrgottsacker, which translates as the "Lord God's Field", on account of the reverence in which the wines made from these grapes were traditionally held. Heavenly stuff indeed!
And, if you haven't heard about these wines, here's my not-quite fifteen minutes of fame on RTE from just a 'little' while ago.
