This is a really fascinating, high-quality, delicious white that will make you go back and look for more wines from this wonderful country. Made from Malagouzia and Assyrtiko varieties, it has a stunning perfumed nose that shows smoke, flint and a note that you'd normally get from Riesling. The smooth palate has a texture like a Viognier and a wonderful array of minerality and grape-skin features that really make it stand out. Excellent wine and one of the best whites of the year.
As recommended by Aoife Carrigy in The Irish Independent:
"This Malagousia-Assyrtiko blend sets out its stall with big, bold aromas of wild brush that conjure warm evenings on Macedonian hills. All those herbal notes of sage and bay and its pink grapefruit zest would appeal to fans of herbaceous Sauvignon Blanc and Verdejo."
The Manolesakis estate was established in 1989 by the Manolesaki family, who have set about growing fashionable international varieties around the city of Drama. Founded by Giorgos Manolesakis who was one of the first investors to revive viticulture in this historic area, all elements of the winery and vineyard work are carried out by him, with his son Stavros, in order to maximise the communication of the terroir into the bottles of wine that they produce.
A Brand New winery building was set up in 1998 and in 2004 the project to replant Greek varieties really got underway, leading to a dynamic growth in interest in their wines with audiences across the globe taking notice of this excellent quality wine production.
