A proudly traditional Barolo producer, this wine is almost paradoxically the perfect expression of a modern Barolo - approachable, elegant and perfumed with a silky palate and supple, juicy tannins. Flavours of redcurrant, rose petals, dark spices and blueberry, the palate is smooth and intense, with a long, dry and savoury finish.

An elegant and generous nose offers delicate spicy notes together with aromas of flowers and small red fruit. The palate is intense and well-balanced with soft, silky tannins. The finish is rich and persistent.

After a very traditional harvest, crushing, pressing and maceration, the wine macerates for just over a week before fermentation begins, lasting until the winter. The wine then ages in various oak barrels for 18 months, during which time full malolactic fermentation takes place.

Born out of the financial ruin of a failed co-operative in the Langhe, Prunotto has been incredibly successful ever since. The first Piemontese winery to successfully export to the USA and South America, the estate has grown and developed for over a hundred years in the hillside areas outside of the historic town of Alba.

Since the 1960s the winery were focussed on the concepts of vineyard specificity and the quality that wines yield from different sites, even within the same village or commune. In this way, Prunotto began procuring grapes from some of the best sites in all of Barolo and still do to this day. Antinori began working with Prunotto at the end of the 1980s and then took over production in the 1990s. The estate is situated across numerous different sites and covers a total of 71 hectares of vineyard; this spread of land allows for a very deliberate and carefully managed sourcing of grapes to construct the style that the house seeks for this wine in particular. In other words, they are are able to represent Barolo from all of its constituent parts in both Langhe and Monferrato: this is what Barolo really tastes like.

Delicious and interesting range of wines delivered promptly to my door. Not far off that lovely feeling of coming back laden from a good wine store but without any of the traffic or the worry of breaking the wine en route (very impressive travel wrap).
